Today we pay homage to Niels Diffrient, renowned industrial designer and Humanscale partner for over 16 years, who passed away Saturday morning. Diffrient, designer of the Freedom and Liberty chairs, believed in the importance of putting function first, simplicity and maintaining very high standards, a legacy that will live on through his designs, and through the profound contribution he made to the design community.

Last week, Glassworks and Mobi exhibited at designEX in Melbourne, Australia’s longest running design and architecture event. Thanks to everyone who came by – it’s always exciting to meet new faces in the industry, get inspired by the innovation and design on display, and hear live feedback from those either seeing our product ranges for the first time, or finding out what’s new.
The latest private business awards winners have been revealed, with Schiavello Group ranking 106th on the list. Schiavello Group is also listed as the largest company by revenue for the sector categorised as “Other Manufacturing.” The index lists employee count as 1,320, a 1.5% increase from the previous year.
A large scale Mari Funaki sculpture was unveiled at the entrance of Schiavello’s Tullamarine headquarters, showcasing the ‘insect like’ work that encompasses the geometric perfection and allusiveness of Funaki’s work.
