Starlite Table

Starlite is a workbench that maximises functionality through its cantilevered ends and minimalistic legs and understructure.

Starlite features the greatest span between legs of all the Schiavello tables, with the ability to expand to up to 4m with the support of only 4 legs. Most other tables have their legs positioned on the outermost corners, however Starlite’s tabletop floats in an cantilevered manner, allowing for a more diverse range of seating positions and capacities.

A freestanding table system, Starlite suits a range of functions within the workplace, including a standalone workbench, a series of back to back workbenches, a meeting table or a contemporary dining table.

While many tables feature legs positioned on the outermost corners of the tabletop, Peter Schiavello sought out a table that harnessed advanced engineering that could render it capable of cantilevered ends, allowing for different seating positions and a more generous capacity. Developed in 2006, Starlite is a classic design still sold today.

“We were looking to create a solid, stable table with the ability to be expansive and clean with minimal legs, and the ability to integrate cable reticulation,” Peter explains.

With only four legs, the heavy-duty steel underframe of the resulting product, Starlite, allows it to reach an impressive 4m in length. This allows the table to support bigger groups, a range of functions, and an array of seating positions that traditional table structures cannot cater to. Meanwhile, the leg design itself references a lightweight and contemporary aesthetic, blending minimalism with sculptural elements to cater to dining, living and working spaces.

Led by Anton Schiavello, the Schiavello Design Studio is made up of a number of talented product designers and engineers. The studio has been the driving force behind a number of Schiavello’s most successful designs, including Krossi in 2013, the first Australian made and designed sit-stand desk, and the pioneering Climate workplace system in 2010, still one of the most malleable products of its kind.
