Tango Table

Tango’s playful aesthetic balances fun and elegance in the home and office. Adapting to modern interiors and a variety of styles, Tango is an ideal side table and coffee table for living, working and public spaces.

The Tango tabletop is also available in either metal powder coat, hand stitched leather hide or American Oak veneer, finished in a natural or walnut stain. By unifying the finish across the base and top or choosing contrasting finishes, Tango’s design can sit at home in a variety of interiors.

Available in two top sizes and two heights, Tango tables neatly overlap each other when used together and when joined side-by-side, they form larger surfaces. When nested together, Tango imparts visual rhythm and can be sculptural and functional.

With a slender tabletop made of 5mm aluminium and legs made from a 8mm frame, Tango is lightweight and compact, making it easy to move around and reconfigure. Despite this, it has been tested to carry up to an 80kg centre load without tipping or deflection.

In response to Schiavello’s brief for a lightweight table that had the ability to expand and shrink its footprint, designer Ivan Woods developed Tango.

“I wanted to create a table that embraced endless possibilities and that worked as a companion piece for any lounge seating elements that require a highly portable and configurable table,” he explains. “Tango’s geometric aesthetic provides an elegant arrangement and can be nested together to create layers and impart visual rhythm to the environment it resides in.”

With such a thin aluminium tabletop, however, much consideration went into welding methods in order to achieve the design. “We wanted the top to be alumunium because it’s such a lightweight and strong material,” says Design & Marketing Director, Anton Schiavello. “But at the same time we experimented through a lot of different welding methods before we could find one that worked in order to perfectly join the tabletop to the thin metal rod legs.”

The resulting piece is elegant, playful and meets its original intended purpose, while boasting the robust and geometric shapes, as well as delicate lines that Ivan’s designs are so often known for.

The late Ivan Woods designed interiors and products for over 30 years. His work drew inspiration from his travels and interior architecture training in Perth, Australia. Working across projects within the UK, US, Germany and Italy, Ivan specialised in hotel and workspace design.

Schiavello and Ivan Woods maintained a solid history together. Our collaborative design process, which evolved over a decade, yielded distinctive collections such as Toro Collection in 2011, Palomino Chair in 2014, and both Kayt Village and Bomba Sofa in 2015.

With a strong architectural sensibility and carefully considered geometry, Ivan enriched his designs' emotional qualities in the fine detailing and sense of place. Ivan explained, "Good design is the creation of spaces, experiences and objects, embedded with strong and dynamic emotional connections to the people that use them. This is done through reflecting a sense of place, with a cultural authenticity and aesthetic.”
