The inaugural Eat-Drink-Design Awards were announced last night at Melbourne’s Crown Metropol, where around 300 designers, architects, and their hospitality clients from Australia and New Zealand gathered to celebrate. The new annual awards program speaks to the passion, creativity and rigour of designers and operators who create brilliant hospitality destinations.
Eight winners and twenty-four high commendations were awarded from a shortlist of 157 projects, and one restaurant was inducted into the Hall of Fame.
The Spring 2012 issue of Design Quarterly (DQ) features a two page profile on Climate, with insight on the modern workplace from Schiavello’s Workplace Research Psychologist Keti Malkoski, and an overview of the pilot installation of Climate at Deloitte Digital in Melbourne.

Schiavello Constructions Victoria was honoured at the 2012 Master Builders Excellence in Construction Awards night, winning the Excellence in Shop and Office Fitout award for work at Crown Towers VIP Salons, Level 39.
Four exclusive gaming salons, each with private dining and lounge settings, as well as dedicated powder rooms and retreat sanctuaries, were converted from the existing single floor villa. Delivered under extreme time pressure, this project required the highest attention to detail and flawless program coordination.

Prof. Alan Hedge, the professor of Ergonomics in the department of Design & Environmental Analysis, Cornell University (USA) discussed the importance of Green Ergonomics and how it is starting to revolutionize green buildings. Focusing on LEED projects in USA, possible developments in Green Ergonomics were spoken about and how these same requirements could readily be integrated into any green building rating and certification system.
Future expansion of the role of ergonomics in sustainable design was considered with a lot of interest by the audience into Alan’s view on the next steps for Australia.
