Schiavello Construction and Techne Architecture + Interior Design’s collaboration for the Long Chim restaurant, a re-interpretation of Bangkok’s bustling street food culture, has been shortlisted for Best Restaurant Design in the 2017 Eat Drink Design Awards.

Announced on 18 August, the shortlist for Best Restaurant Design includes 36 projects. Winners will be announced 14 November.

Schiavello would like to congratulate our project partners Technē Architecture + Interior Design, Futurespace and WMK Architecture on their shortlist in the 2017 Interior Design Excellence Awards (IDEA).

Garden State Hotel (Technē, Hospitality), a leading QLD based software company (WMK Architecture), PEXA and Firemonkeys (Futurespace, Workplace over 1000sqm) are all in the running; winners will be announced at the IDEA Gala Party in November.

Two hundred and fifty-three Australian projects have been shortlisted across 15 categories and two special categories in the 2017 Interior Design Excellence Awards (IDEA). The high calibre awards program is now in its 14th year and has continued to grow in scale with 2017 seeing a record number of entries.

This year marked the highly anticipated launch of Toku, designed and presented by Gavin Harris to the A&D community. Across both days, Gavin Harris shared his inspiration behind the new collection and his design process.

Adele Bates and Schiavello came together to present the MR Chair. With a focus on modern simplicity and a refined geometric form, Adele Bates took inspiration from the MR Chair and designed the Schiavello stand that speaks to the chairs design itself.  The intent was to reflect products core ideals, and how it’s contemporary aesthetic is approachable and reflective of the human scale.  Elements of colour within the stand is a response to the colour palette of the chairs finishes – multifaceted and wide-ranging – and a rendered textural finish is used in response to the visually tactile nature of the range.

Pioneer represented an Australian design collective of local independent designers. Having recently re-launched at Denfair 2017, SID represented the official Sydney launch of MAP. Designed by Chris Connell, the latest products on display included Split table, Lean storage, Plane table and Rib chair.

The Indigenous Participation Program led by Olympic Hurdler, Kyle Vander Kuyp, has achieved a fantastic milestone  employing Schiavello’s first ever Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander apprentice, Elijah Bux.

A freshly faced 18yo originally from Shepparton (the Yorta Yorta tribes), Elijah first met with Kyle back in June to discuss Schiavello’s apprenticeship program.


Friday 11th August saw the Master Builders Association of South Australia hold their annual Building Excellence Awards to celebrate the best in building and construction.

Having already received a 6 Star Green Star Award by the GBCA, Schiavello’s office fit-out for DEWNR (Department of Environment, Water and Natural Resources) received a commendation for Excellence in Environmental & Sustainable Construction – Commercial.


Flinders Lane is the centre of the cool food movement in Melbourne, and now it’s also home to some of Victoria’s best construction, with Schiavello receiving the 2017 Master Builders Award for Excellence in Construction of Commercial Buildings $5m-10m for Garden State Hotel.


Congratulations to our construction division on another safety milestone. The Office of the Federal Safety Commissioner has awarded Schiavello the maximum 6 year reaccreditation period based on our excellent performance and ongoing commitment to safety. This extended recertification period is twice the national average.

Well done to Diana Parisi and her QSE team, and our site staff who live and breathe this commitment on a daily basis.

On 2 August, a group of Melbourne’s most influential property professionals will share their industry knowledge to host the next Melbourne Retail Forum at CBRE, discussing the key factors driving the future success of retail, as well as local and global trends impacting the retail property market.

The forum will see five panellists meet to discuss the current state of the Melbourne retail property market, mediated by CBRE’s director of Melbourne city sales and middle markets Josh Rutman and Schiavello’s property and business development manager, Carmelo Rositano.

Schiavello Construction is now recruiting for our first ever Schiavello Startup program, designed to give cadets a real-life experience of the construction industry.

The 24-month cadetship is open to 3rd and 4th-year university and TAFE students, as well as recent graduates.

The program includes a comprehensive series of modules, including site management, estimation, administration, project management, design management, safety, quality and environment.

Refurbishment work is well underway at the Lakes Resort Hotel in Adelaide. The SA Construction team, the Fahey family, IA Design and Studio Nine Architects are collaborating to deliver a number of building upgrades to the resort.

The scope of work includes a new airlock to the northern entrance, refurbished hallways, gaming room, sports bar, bistro and sports lounge.

The project is expected to be completed in the coming month.
