Refurbishing a performance theatre

As head contractor, our NSW construction team carried out a full refurbishment and interior construction of the Griffith Duncan Theatre, at the University of Newcastle.

Recognised as one of Newcastle's premier full-performance theatres, the venue underwent a complete refurbishment of the auditorium, gallery, stage, mechanical plant room, and public foyers.

The project objectives also included improved safety during operations, improved functionality, and student and public satisfaction when using the theatre.

Constructing around lectures and tutorials

Our team collaborated with various consultants to ensure all elements of the project met the client brief. This included audiovisual configurations, mechanised curtains, and lighting.

The most challenging aspect of this project was ensuring minimal disruption during the construction process. All works were carried out alongside active lectures and tutorials during the university semester. Site safety, security, and noise mitigation was carefully managed at each stage of the process.
