Bomba is a modern, timeless sofa collection designed by Melbournian Ivan Woods. Named after the Latin American musical style where the dancer’s movements dictate the beat of the drums, Bomba Sofa is similarly led by the user’s requirements.
Adapting to any environment, Bomba is infinitely versatile. The 24 possible configurations are available with or without backrests and armrests and can be adapted to include integrated side tables finished in Oak. Its versatility makes it an ideal solution for small, medium and large spaces.
The Bomba Sofa features firm cushioning and an upright posture to support productive spaces within commercial and living environments. Designed primarily for spaces such as lobbies and public areas, Bomba can host a group of people in a collaborative space or individuals in a retreat space.
The late Ivan Woods designed interiors and products for over 30 years. His work drew inspiration from his travels and interior architecture training in Perth, Australia. Working across projects within the UK, US, Germany and Italy, Ivan specialised in hotel and workspace design.
Ivan developed the idea for Bomba in response to the need to provide an informal, soft seating option that was inherently modular in nature, but with a contemporary lounge aesthetic. Creating a refined and strong product with Bomba’s unusual amount of joints was intricate and difficult work.
With its timber arms and legs featuring more angles than the average sofa, Bomba’s initial design challenges lay in finding a solution to creating the timberwork at a quality that was desired, whilst maintaining the angular design. The well-resolved result led to a thoughtful, flexible sofa collection.
