Schiavello, one of Australia’s largest designers and manufacturers of commercial furniture, today announces the acquisition of MAP International Furniture (MAP), a renowned designer of classic contemporary furniture for residential, hospitality and commercial environments.
Schiavello’s acquisition of MAP advances its commitment to collaborating with leading design talent to further develop and shape the Schiavello product range. The combination of MAP’s exciting range of classic contemporary furniture, and Schiavello’s extensive design, engineering and manufacturing capabilities, and global logistics network, will increase the value and range of options for clients. For MAP’s passionate base of long standing customers, the next stage of MAP will give them greater access and service than ever before.
“We are pleased to align ourselves with such a respected brand, that shares our passion for design, and belief that anything is possible,” says Peter Schiavello, Managing Director of Schiavello Group. “Together, we will offer our clients a broader set of solutions and opportunities to achieve their aspirations.”
MAP is a pioneer in Australian contemporary furniture, founded in 1988 by Melbourne-based partners Chris Connell and Raoul Hogg. The company applies new and old manufacturing processes, semi-precious materials, and handcrafted detailing to create beautiful products designed to last a lifetime. With Connell at the helm of design, MAP’s aesthetic strives for classic, timeless simplicity through attention to detail and honest use of materials. Lauded internationally for excellence in design, MAP’s iconic Pepe chair has been in permanent collection in the Museum of Modern Art, New York, since 1995.
“From the very beginning we’ve always tried to push the boundaries of what can be done,” says Raoul Hogg. “As part of the Schiavello family, MAP can continue to explore the possibilities of Australian contemporary design, but with the support of Schiavello behind us.”
The MAP by Schiavello range is now available, with products spanning tables, chairs, lounges, and other occasional furniture. These products include Flow, Square, Strip and Stripper, Thinner Timber, Round Cross, Tablets, Tea, Stax, Graphio and Graphio 2, Ring and Fez. Chris Connell, co-founder and principal designer for MAP, is excited to maintain his involvement with the brand.
As residential trends continue to inspire commercial environments, there is a demand for furniture that represents a fusion of each. MAP products are extremely versatile, and offer solutions for high end residential settings, and a wide range of commercial spaces.
