The National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) ACT Awards were held at the National Arboretum in Canberra this year.

The awards showcased the achievements and industry advancements of women, men and organisations in the construction industry, celebrating winners with awards such as the Mentor of the Year award and the Emerging Leader award.

Sharing an ongoing relationship with NAWIC, Schiavello manufactured and donated the seven winners trophies to the event. “The trophies were unique in design to NAWIC and we needed them within a short lead time,” says NAWIC’s Jayne Garzotto. “Although they were made to our specific design, Schiavello had its own spin on the final design. We were after a hard wood finish, and Angelo [Papas, Divisional Operations Manager at Schiavello Manufacturing] chose Tasmanian blackwood, which is a beautiful timber; it has red and dark chocolate age rings and swirls.”

The timber was donated by Schiavello supplier Britton Timbers, and was machined, finished and sealed, complete with a soft green wash strip, by Schiavello Manufacturing’s Joinery division. West Award and Print completed the engraving.

“This years’ NAWIC ACT Awards Night was the biggest in the ACT to date,” reflects Garzotto. “The Arboretum is a world-class facility and had the service to match. Many of the people and trade companies in the room were actually a part of constructing the Arboretum.  It was the highlight of our event calendar for the year and for the ACT construction industry as a whole.”
