Built to meet the changing demands of the modern individual

Sustainable co-working space, The Commons, has opened its first Melbourne CBD office. Businesses and individuals looking for a space to connect, focus, and grow will love the ambience and central location provided by The Commons QV.

Our construction team was enlisted to bring The Commons brand to the CBD in collaboration with Foolscap Studio and Riverlee. The result is a buzzing ecosystem of workspaces designed to encourage innovation and collaboration amongst its members.

Loaded with a library, sensory room, amphitheatre, and indoor golf simulator, the flexible co-working hub can accommodate up to 350 members. Along with specialist amenities, the space offers meeting rooms, private offices, shared working areas, and private soundproof phone booths.

Working through a changing construction programme

While variations were requested weekly, perhaps the most significant challenge posed was the request to redesign the kitchen – only one week prior to handover.

This required a complete rebuild including moving all relevant plumbing and services across to the new location. However, our team honoured all changes throughout the build without extending the programme timeline.

Without sacrificing design intent, our team applied Design and Construct (D&C) principles throughout the build to offer cost-saving recommendations and buildability advice for ultimate functionality.

Client satisfaction

The Commons Director, Tom Ye, describes working alongside our construction team as a positive experience. For Tom, the attention to detail asserted by our team throughout the space is its redeeming feature.

Not only are the feature elements of the space built beautifully, but all workspaces and lesser-used or seen spaces are built with care. The team have done a wonderful job on this project.

Custom-built features

Using the expertise of our manufacturing team in Tullamarine meant that we could custom-build feature structures in our factory.

This in-house service was applied to the construction of the tiered amphitheatre and Milium framing for the private meeting rooms and offices.
