Reimagining heritage architecture

Enter the Bates Smart designed venue via the custom bevelled glass and timber doors, pass a faceted mirrored host desk into a dimly lit, neutral toned restaurant, and private dining room.

To the right is the sophisticated lounge, with a combination of earthy and neutral tones in the various upholstered seating arrangements and the new, custom marble-topped bar.

Situated in the heritage building, many of the original architectural features have been retained and remodelled, including specialised 'ovolo' wall and ceiling plaster detailing, to finish the refined 1,000sqm lounge area.

No sacrifices to design intent

The project was made of two smaller stages; the lounge and bar area, and the dining room.

Like all construction at SKYCITY Casino Adelaide, our SA construction team provided an experienced and resourceful team which comprised of a dedicated construction manager, design manager, services manager, and packages manager to oversee complicated scopes and fast track trades for the stage two works.

Bespoke joinery and carpentry were coordinated and our team sourced alternate ceiling panels to meet time restraints and building codes, without sacrificing design intent.

Accelerated five-week delivery despite changes to the programme

With our team's attention to detail, dedicated packages manager, and design manager, potential buildability concerns associated with delivering complex design features within a restricted programme - including custom made timber panelling - were detected early and resolved through collaboration with the designers and project managers. This allowed the already tight timeframes to remain and negated the need for costly rework regarding both time and budget.

Substantial operational space changes midway through the construction phase also affected the budget and programme. Extensive changes to the layout included the redesign of the bar joinery and floor finishes and change of materials from timber to carpet. In spite of this, our team adapted to the modifications remarkably well and achieved an accelerated five-week delivery.

Put the odds in your favour.
